SUMMARY:Pottery Playshop: Make a Fort Ancient style pot
DESCRIPTION:In this Pottery Playshop\, you will make a piece of pottery with the same methods used by the Fort Ancient Indigenous peoples who lived in the Ohio River Valley around 1000-1750 CE. The Fort Ancient peoples were Ohio’s original farmers! They are believed to be descendants of the Adena and Hopewell peoples and ancestors of the Shawnee. \n\n\n\n\nThe image is a Fort Ancient pot with Guilloche design (Robert A. Genheimer). \n\n\n\nSource: Maslowski\, Robert. (2011). New River Cultural Affiliation Report. \n\n\n\n\nYou will learn the coil-building method and the Fort Ancient style incised decoration used to create your piece\, and although the Fort Ancient people used open fires and shallow pits to fire their pottery\, Primitive Mud Pottery will finish your pot in a kiln. Your piece will be ready for pick-up in about 2 weeks. \n\n\n\nCreative option: you can add a few holes and make your pot into a planter! \n\n\n\nThis unique experience is supported in part by a seed grant from Ohio’s Winding Road. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParking: You can use the first 7 spots in the adjacent parking lot (left of the gallery- ignore the sign). Other parking lots can be found on this map\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Speaking Peace: Intro to Compassionate Communication
DESCRIPTION:Speaking Peace: A Compassionate Communication Playshop is an experiential learning playshop introducing the principles and practices of Compassionate Communication\, also known as Nonviolent Communication.\n\n\n\nMost of us have been educated to compete\, judge\, demand\, and diagnose — to think and communicate in terms of what is “right“ and “wrong“ with people.  We express our feelings in terms of what another person has “done to us.” We struggle to understand our own needs in the moment or to effectively ask for what we want without using unhealthy demands\, threats\, or coercion.  \n\n\n\nNonviolent Communication®\, was created by American Psychologist Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg. It consists of principles and practices that help us build positive relationships and systems based on trust\, autonomy\, and care for all. You can learn more about it here and about Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg here. \n\n\n\nAt best\, communicating and thinking this way can create misunderstanding and frustration. And still worse\, it can lead to anger\, depression\, and even emotional or physical violence.  \n\n\n\nSince developing the Nonviolent Communication process in the 1960s\, Marshall Rosenberg’s vision has been to teach people of any age\, gender\, ethnicity\, or socioeconomic background a much more effective alternative\, and in turn to transform relationships\, conflict\, and violence one interaction at a time.   \n\n\n\n“Our survival as a species depends on our ability to recognize that our well-being and the well-being of others are\, in fact\, one and the same. The problem is that we are taught behaviors that disconnect us from this natural awareness. It’s not that we have to learn how to be compassionate; we have to unlearn what we’ve been taught and get back to compassion.”~Marshall Rosenberg\, Ph.D.\, founder of The Center for Nonviolent Communication\, and author of “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Self-Empathy Dance: a Compassionate Communication Playshop
DESCRIPTION:Human Needs\n\n\n\nThe Self-Empathy Dance offers an experiential learning opportunity focusing on one of the main components of Compassionate Communication and emotional intelligence. The playshop will consist of large and small group exploration of self-empathy and practices. It is beneficial if you have attended an Empathy Cafe or Self-Empathy playshop but not a requirement. \n\n\n\nWhy a dance? Our emotions\, thoughts\, and needs are never static\, they move! Communication\, whether with others or with ourselves is like a dance\, ideas form within and movements are expressed outwardly. \n\n\n\nEmpathy is one of the most valuable gifts we possess as humans\, the ability to listen deeply to others and to be deeply heard and understood without judgment. But\, don’t forget about yourself! We can empathize with ourselves\, often transforming painful experiences into meaningful self-connection and understanding. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:"Because the Night" Shadow in the Moon St. Paddy's Day concert
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to have Shadow in the Moon\, local duet Jessica Bouffioux & Kurt McGinnis play with us on St. Paddy’s Day! We hope you come to join the fun and bring your favorite beverages from one of Lancaster’s DORA restaurants and bars. \n\n\n\n\n\nOriginating in the foothills of Southeast Ohio\, Shadow in the Moon bridges the gap between pop and heavy grunge with blues and folk roots. The ethereal swirling vocals guide you on a journey through the dense forests and meandering rivers of Appalachia. The culmination of crisp tones and expressive overdriven electric guitar leads blend together with dreamy cerebral notes of keyboard and synth. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you find joy in contributing to our community and are able to give without financial hardship\, we invite you to give. Your gift helps Mud Gallery host events like these to be offered freely and allows anyone regardless of resources to attend. \n\n\n\n\nGiving\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...
